What a mess. The COVID19 pandemic involves more than a virus, vaccination controversy, and general public health. COVID has revealed a lot about our society, our government, and the psychology and philosophy of many. It's shown the insignificance of the individual, just how trivial you and your private, sacred world are. What you care for - no matter its irrelevance to everyone else - can be taken from you effortlessly. You, as a person, do not matter at all. One would argue it's for the sake of the majority, but if that be true, who precisely are the majority? Who are we collectively if the individual is sacrificed?

The pandemic has also proven that your body is not your body, as government and society pressure bodily decisions through restrictions and shame.

Unfortunately, we've also shown just how much we've given up independent thought. We all indeed seem to have an opinion, but rarely does the view differentiate from person to person with their unique intellectual imprint, signifying an attempt to personally understand and assimilate what's happening. Instead, it's a matter of solely referencing some statistic, expert or news channel, which is an act of resisting personal investigation, leaving little room for a conversation that may provide beneficial information. Many just want to get on with life, and that's understandable, but if we, the people, do not get a grip of what's wholly happening here, then our future is not ours.

And we know governments all around the world withhold information from the mass, but this is another level of secrecy and disservice. The origin is still apparently unknown, or better yet, kept secret. People have lost their jobs, their loved ones, their lives, people like you and I who had nothing to do with any of this have suffered tremendously. The tragedy is that they treat us as such, and we just foolishly fight one another. Our lives are governed by those who do not know anything about us, let alone care to know, and we turn on one another in search of someone to blame.

Deadly diseases are unwise to dismiss as they obviously debilitate our health, but if it's about health, then how can we simultaneously ignore our psyche, diet and lifestyle? What we produce, advertise and sell - be it material or non-material - cannot indicate we've empowered leaders who know how to manage a pandemic, let alone leaders who genuinely care about public health.

Suicide is not unnatural; everyone considers it whether they realise it or not - for no animal this biologically primitive yet intellectually godly remains mentally stable without some form of spiritual practice easing the intensity of consciousness. Therefore, we all make a choice. You either familiarise yourself with silence or solely depend on distractions to prevent you from killing yourself. Because underlying our motives to consume or invent is an intent to occupy the mind from focusing on the void expanding within that reminds us nothing lasts, nothing matters, and it’ll soon devour us whole.

Rarely do we see ourselves, if at all. Some go an entire lifetime without ever knowing what they look like because they see through the words of another. The same can be said for one's true voice if all they do is merely repeat. And if this is the situation, then knowing what you desire is not possible when you no longer recognise yourself; when all you hear and see is someone else. Therefore, when it comes to finding yourself, you must ask, “who’s looking?”

Modern debates rarely concern the subject at hand. Most discussions involve a dominant interest to define or defend an image. Disagreements are no longer a matter of individuals sharing a mutual interest in understanding the difference in perspective for the betterment of both parties. Instead, they are utilised to feed the ego for a sense of comfort and relief from the underlying insecurity of not knowing oneself. This becomes evident through the use of insults.

Live true to yourself, and if you're unsure of what your truth is, then close your eyes, surrender all fear and dream your most heartfelt desires. Do not fear the answer; do not fear to question. If we remain unaware, either through direct dishonesty or subconscious suppression, then everything we experience is partially lived, and what's the point of that? We'd be half alive - half a lie. As a kid, I observed my parents hide the truth from one another like it was something to feel ashamed of, and as I grew older, I realised I had formed the same mentality. Society and culture spoke for me, so when it came to expressing my meaning through profound mediums like art, intimate relationships or sex, it never represented the insides of my soul. I rejected myself, and that's the most unhealthy, destructive decision you can make.

To encounter ourselves within an advanced alien species would be the end of us, and that’s saying something about what we’ve decided to be both individually and collectively. We wouldn't be able to withstand ourselves, let alone survive.

The most fitting answer to express how well we understand existence is a smile. It is the most reasonable, most judicious and intelligent response. Physics, philosophy, politics, mathematics, religion - they have nothing on the depth of a smile, for it's an acknowledgement of the humour behind life; that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously because there's nothing fundamentally here to take seriously. We're a bunch of punchlines making fun of the paradoxical nature of existence.
